Was very excited to be able to see Hungary for the first time. I had been doing a lot of online research about my mother's father's side of the family. I was able to find the city and then, through the help of Facebook and some Hungarian Genealogical groups, was able to find living relatives who were amazing! The one part of visiting Hungary that I liked was the ability to find great pension/apartment style hotel rooms. On this visit, I stayed at a hotel across from the National Museum called Budapest Museum Central Apartments. Was a very nice place and was close to a lot of where I wanted to visit in Budapest. I also got to use the Hop-On Hop-Off Budapest tour that included a river cruise up and down the Danube. Was beautiful and gave me the opportunity to be able to see what I wanted to see in Budapest by foot. It also gave me a great deal of photography in. Being someone who has never been in a great public transportation hub, I have been told Budapest's is second to none. As I get to know the city more, I will use it. I did walk a lot and also used the Bolt app (which is like Uber in the states but its connected to Taxis and used throughout most of Europe).
My first restaurant that I visited was the Goulash close to my hotel. Was off the beaten track and had very reasonable costs. I went to a Langos restaurant in Budapest, but it was no match to the mangos stand my cousins took me to in Székesfehérvár (which I can now pronounce after lots of practice). The best food of the trip was my cousin's and his wife's cooking. I still crave the kolbaz that my cousin handmade and the big meal they made for my welcome party. Oh and, have I forgotten the palinka (a word that my spellcheck hates)? Was awesome.
I also ate at a wonderful bistro near Vörösmarty Square and a Greek restaurant down the street from my hotel. I also took advantage of the local Spar and ate in the hotel room.
